You need to connect the sieral cable to your computer and have some kind of Terminal program so you can access the board(PuTTY, Hyper Terminal, etc.). If you don’t have a console port on your PC, you will need a USB to Console adapter. Use the settings of:
Baud:115200
Bits: 8
Stop: 1
Parity: none
Everything by the baud rate is default in most terminal programs.
K i been playing, turns out i have to reboot the router and only then will stuff display on the screen
I get this :
Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup
RouterBOOT-2.20
What do you want to configure?
d - boot delay
k - boot key
s - serial console
o - boot device
u - cpu mode
f - cpu frequency
r - reset booter configuration
e - format nand
g - upgrade firmware
i - board info
p - boot protocol
t - do memory testing
x - exit setup
your choice: refresh
I have tried all the logical ones, but how do i get to the console? i want to rester routerOS settings, maybe the enterfaces got disabled?
Or am i on the wrong track? What am i looking for in here? Cause it is clearly working fine?
I have tried uploading new firmware via ethernet but it gives an error:
Upgrade firmware options:
e - upgrade firmware over ethernet
s - upgrade firmware over serial port
your choice: e - upgrade firmware over ethernet
trying bootp protocol... OK
Got IP address: 192.168.1.4
resolved mac address 40:61:86:14:9B:6F
transfer started ....................... transfer ok, time=4.99s
invalid upgrade file id
Ok for some reason you are going into the boot loader when you start up the board from some reason. Press ‘o’ to load up the boot devices and tell it to boot from nand. That will be the flash chip and is what you want.
Ok if i dont push a button and just let it boot. it displays this:
RouterBOOT booter 2.20
RouterBoard 433
CPU frequency: 300 MHz
Memory size: 64 MB
Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup..
loading kernel from nand... OK
setting up elf image... OK
jumping to kernel code
Starting...
Starting services...
I booted from ethernet, and then netinstalled the new firmware
and it seemes to work.
Thanks so much, I have learnt allot about the console, its quite easy, Im busy fixing an old rb111 that i found on a mountain somewhere, loading routeros on it again cause its key was lost.
