I have a RB433AH that’s been running fine using 4.10. I upgraded it to the latest stable (5.2) but then it would just reboot over and over again. I had to reinstall it using Netinstall to latest legacy (4.17). It did boot up and I was able to configure it using WinBox and shut it down. But now it won’t boot.
It prints out lots of “y” with two dots on top (don’t know how to type that on the iPad) in the serial console. It will show the boot menu maybe one out of 50 boots (and beep once). Sometimes it will show the boot menu if you wait 5-15 minutes. It will continue to print “y” so it is impossible to use the menu.
I want to downgrade to 4.10 again. But how can I do that when the serial console seems broken? It did work at first. No difference without wifi-cards. Power is good.
I’ve seen that there are others that have similar problems with 4.17. Is this a known bug? Do I need to have my RouterBoard replaced?
If you’re getting weird characters chances are your baud rate is wrong. Are you using the default of 115,200? Did you change it from the default when you still had access?
As I wrote, the RouterBOOT will sometime display but I cannot use it because of the constant printing of “ÿ” characters. So there is nothing wrong with my serial settings. If I do not press space, it will boot. I’ll see if I can produce a screenshot.
What might be wrong and what can I do to fix it? I can boot it up, but that takes a long time and it will reboot if put under pressure (like uploading a file).
I managed to solve the issue. Don’t ask me what was wrong, because I have no idea. I just used one of the oldest trick in the book; change something and it might solve something else (and for the same reason you should not change things that work). And as a bonus, the printer that could not connect to the AP (the reason why I upgraded the router) connects without even touching it.
