rb433uah installation without serial port

Apologies as this must be a really basic question but I can’t find the answer.

I’ve just received a new rb433uah. It has a serial port but I don’t have a gender bender
available to connect it to a pc (20 years ago I’d’ve had 10 on my desk…). So, I presumed
I’d just be able to get it to dhcp over the network so I can connect to it but it doesn’t
seem to want to play. If I boot it and press the s301 button it does dhcp but I think it
requires a pxe image as it’s not happy with just an IP address.

Am I mistaken in believing that the board comes with routerOS already installed?
If I am, where do I get a bootable pxe image from? I found a link that pointed to
routerboard.com but it’s no longer there. Can I boot this without having to dredge
the bottom of my garage for a serial cable?

Thanks!

In the meantime (prior to post approval), I found a serial cable and hooked it up. It seems it’s a problem with POE. I tried a different using the existing cable and powering the board directly and DHCP works, and I tried a different cable and that seems to work (sometimes). It’s just not reliable though. I’m using a 15V power supply with a passive POE dongle.

it comes with routeros installed. what happens after 30s of just powering it on and not touching anything? Do you ever get the double beep? if not, run netinstall on a windows box (no firewall on) and see if it shows up in the list to do an installation on. make sure to give netinstall an IP on your subnet for the client to dhcp with.
