have you guyes experience that sometimes you got ping timed out issues from windows (xp, vista, windows 7) machines while simultaneously from linux (ubuntu 6.06, ubuntu 7.04, ubuntu 8.04) machines the ping time are perfect??
i happened twice, one was when i’m using routeros 3.20, and just now with routeros 3.22. all routerboard firmware was updated to the latest version.
the router has lot of package loss for around 30 minutes if i ping from windows machines, but in the same time the ping time from linux machines are perfect (0 package loss). after 30 minutes the routerboard could be pinged perfectly from both machines, which was weird for me. at the time it had lot of package loss, i go to winbox via linux machines and saw the cpu utilization was below 10% at all time, and the current throughput is nowhere near 512kbps.
i keep getting ping timed out randomly from windows machine though i’ve already updated to the new version 3.22 using firmware 2.20 and resetting the configuration.

I see this issue pretty consistantly. Using RB333, RB433AH and RB411 - all with ROS 3.22 and lateast firmware - 2.20 I believe.
Previous ROS 2.9.50 on RB500 or Intel CPU did not exhibit this behavior.
There was another post on this, and it had something to do with time out values being changed in the latest linux kernel… Can’t seem to find that post right now.
thanks for the reply, i really appreciate it. i think i solved the problem by switching with other UTP cables. It just weird using pc with routeros, the old cable was just fine, and suddenly when switching to routerboard, the cable went nuts for windows. i guess the lan chipset didn’t compatible with my cable, i’m using Belden Australia UTP cable. sigh
