RB450 bricked

Hi Everyone,

I was attempting to upgrade my RB450 from 3.22 to the 4.10, but also decided to erase all of the Files (in WinBox) before uploading the 4.10 .npk file. I erased all of the files, uploaded the 4.10.npk file, rebooted the router and now I can’t access it anymore.

I tried holding the reset button on boot-up, as well as the reset hole, but no luck. I also don’t have the serial cable to access the router.

How can I fix this?

Thank You

You need to get serial cable and then use netinstall to reinstall software.

Hello,

I’m now having trouble accessing my RB450 with a serial cable:

I plug-in the serial cable into my laptop (or desktop), start HyperTerminal, select COM4 which is the port used, select no Flow Control, baud 9600 and connect my RB450.

Then nothing is coming up in the Hyper Terminal screen… I tried restarting, holding the “reset” button for 60 seconds… etc etc.

I never used the serial port, could someone please suggest what I’m doing wrong?

Thank You

Have you set up port properly?
AFAIR 115200, no flow control the rest is as standard win setup.

I think i set-up the port properly…

I bought a good USB-Serial converter, plugged-it into my Win XP laptop, installed driver, Windows sees this device on COM4. I tried using HyperTerminal and Putty… selected “no flow control”, speed 115200. Nothing shows up on the terminal screen.

What is suppose to show up and when?

be sure you have the correct COMM port selected. Depending on what USB port you have it plugged into it will be assigned a different COMM port number. Windows also has some default COMM port numbres for other things.

If you have the correct COMM port number, make sure the cable is seated properly.

This also happened to me i could not use USB serial converter. You need a null modem cable female both ends.

You need a crossover or rollover cable or adapter.

Ah! I wish I knew that earlier, but better late than never!

So, a regular USB to Serial cable with male-male connectors won’t work? even though it fits?

Thank You

I fixed it!

I got the special serial cable from roc-noc, and was able to access the router right away.

Thank you for help!
