RB450 Problem - Traffic Stops for no reason, requires reboot

I’ve been having a problem with one of our RB450 units. I am not sure which RouterOS version it is using. them manual on the unit says it is “MikroTik RouterOS V2.9.” Not sure how to look up the exact version on the unit.

ETHER1 is set up as the backhaul to the internet, ETHER2 is routing traffic from one of our wireless networks, ETHER3 is routing traffic from another of our wireless networks, now we haven’t had any problem with this unit untill lately. The problem is that both ETHER2 and ETHER3 simply STOP passing traffic for no apparent reason. a reboot gets everything working again as ETHER1 still responds. Now to me it seems like routing just breaks and the system freaks out. I never looked at the logs to see what they say, but this has happened twice in the past 2 weeks.

Any idea WTF is going on? Suggestions? etc.
Please and Thank you for your time.

When you log in with Winbox, the ROS version is shown in the title bar right after the work WinBox.

What radios are plugged into ether2 and ether3?

As a band-aid solution, you might consider setting the watchdog timer to ping one of the wireless devices and reboot if the ping stops working.

I would also upgrade to 3.30 ROS which is the last stable in the ROS 3 series. After that, upgrade the RouterBOOT (from the CLI “sy ro u”).

Good luck,

Tom

the RB450 was using V3.17 as per winbox title bar. I had upgraded it to V4.6 yesterday as it had locked up again. Thank you you the link posted, i read it all but the suggestions there about the Queues didn’t help because we weren’t using any. However I decided to upgrade the firmware to see how that works. So far so good.
