RB450 running 3.28 OS will not upgrade

I have never upgraded my RB450 (running 3.28 now) but have some issues that seem to be fixed with the newer releases.

I downloaded the routeros-mipsbe-5.7.npk file to my PC. Then I opened the FILES menu in Winbox. I dragged the npk file to the files, and confirmed that is was there from the terminal.

I rebooted and it is still running 3.28.

The I tried the same thing with The Dude, and told TD to update the router. Didnt work.

I tried the force update and that didnt work either.

Now what? Any ideas?

Is 3.28 before the 7->8 character license id key change? You may need to get an updated license…

What does this show:

/system license print

software-id: “3J8U-1DQT”
old-software-id: “0760-LTT”
upgradable-to: v4.x
nlevel: 4
features:

Looking at the license print I am not sure, but one thing is the upgradable-to says v4 so does that mean I need something different?

That would be my guess. I think Normis would tell you to contact Mikrotik support.

See this thread where he suggests upgrading to 4.17 first and then to 5.7 http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/license/50254/1

(Dang how can a cut&paste get so scrambled? Fixed now…)

I did see that post already but the end of it the person was stuck at 100% CPU. I will send an email to support I guess and see if I need a new license.

That may be due to a specific DHCP bug in 5.7. Still worth a shot. Backup first so you can rollback and they try it.

1.Upgrade to 3.3 first
2.Do the licence update
3.Upgrade to 4.16 or 17
4.Upgrade to 5.xx
5.Upgrade firmware
