I need a Router / VPN Gateway for my home lan consisting of 5 clients.
I got a 150Mbit connection, so the router must at least be able to handle that speed with a few rules enabled.
I need 2 parallel IPSec tunnels, VPN throughput should at least be 100Mbit+
I also need bandwidth management (limit bandwidth of some of the clients / priotize the traffic of others)
I’ve looked at the RB450G and the RB1100AHx2. Will the 450g be able to handle the throughput, or should I go bigger?
Any other products in the Mikrotik line I should take a look at?
RB450G wont handle ipsec nowhere near those specs … 1100AHx2 is the only router from mikrotik with hardware accelerated ipsec that would fulfill all of your specs … CCR has the feature but routeros does not yet support it … it may support it in the future …
bad thing about 1100AHx2 is that it is louder than most 1U rack servers I don’t know about your house, but I would not consider this for a home router… rb450G is fanless and very quiet, so is rb2011 (about 30% more powerfull than rb450g).
rb1200 would be a perfect choice for your needs … fanless, powerpc based, fast, hardware accelerated ipsec … but with one huge dissadvantage .. it has a long lasting bug that adds about 200msec of latency for all ipsec conecctions regardless of throughput … I consider it useless for ipsec because of this bug, and since rb1200 is discontinued (for about few months, but you can still find it at some distributers stock) I doubt this bug will ever get fixed.
