Hi all
I just pulled out a new RB493 out of the bin to set it up for a new installation. Problem that I am having is it looks like the ethernet ports are mis-matched. What I mean is the POE ethernet connection is showing up as ether2 and the other ports from the top down to the last one on the bottom left are going ether3-4-5-6-7-8-9-1 Yep the last one is ether1.
Now looking at the PDF file for this board it shows POE as ether1 and top left as ether9 down to the last one as ether2. So now I am very confused as to what is what. What makes matters worse is that I have a RB493AH I just put in the field with the configuration as Poe as ether1 and top left as ether2 down to ether9 and it works. So What gives? Which is configuration is right? Was there a change in how these things are arranged now? I hope not as this is going to confuse the HELL out of me and anyone else that has to replace these things as were not going to get the right cable’s hooked up.
Does a /system reset-configuration put it all back correctly?

Did it just now and nope! It is still looking the same.
Thought it might be the software I went from 3.11 out of the box up to 3.20 then down to 3.13 and back to 3.20 No change. I didnt pay any attention on 3.11 if it did it there, so I cant say. Firmware was upgraded to 2.19
Hate to say it, but sending a supout to support@mikrotik.com is the only way you’re going to get an answer on why the firmware seems to think the hardware is mixed up like that! Seeing as you’ve done as much as you can to reset it all back to factory settings and it is still doing it. How wierd!

Well If I can find some old firmware I’ll load it and see. What was strange is that when I pulled it out of the box I went in to it thru the serial interface set up what I thought was ether9 as a DHCP then went in to it ftp and loaded 3.20 and fired it off. I should have paid more attention but things were going well so I just zipped along until the twilight zone hit me.
On another note. This doesnt explain what is going on with the documentation and the first RB483AH I put in. It doesnt match the ethernet port layout. How should the ports be arranged? I hope the PDF file is FUBARed.
Ok Loaded routerboot 2.16 and that did nothing.
This is interesting. Have just grabbed a RB493 and checked it. This one goes back to front. I.e. although ether1 is OK, being the PoE port, the others are reversed when compared to the startup user guide drawing! I have ether2 at the rear and ether9 at the front, nearest the serial port.
Personally, I’m not bothered - but clearly this is a ‘feature’ of how the firmware assigns the port numbering and needs raising with Support.

Well Im scared as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory.
If I down loaded new software or firmware and it reassigned my ethernet ports I would have to go to the site to fix it. I have router boards in some of the worst places to get to. One location I would have to walk up a mountain in snow shoes to get to as it is to steep and rocky to take a snowmobile or snow cat. So this is a big deal for me and others that may have bad spots to get to. If the board is bad so be it. If it is something that is software related then let me know. Im not upgrading anything till I get this figured out. Cant take a chance in winter here.

Ok I got another 493 out of the bin. It checked out ok as far as the ports being ether2 from the top to ether9 at the bottom near the rs232 port. Loaded 3.20 and it looked ok. Loaded my backup file and ZAP the ethernet ports are rearanged. Ether 3 at the top thru to ether9 and ether 1 at the bottom near rs232 port. Im sending my support-out file and backup file to MT. I also did a sys restore and it didnt fix the port changes. I didnt know that a backup could change the hardware configuration. Now I have to get the RB493 back to out of the box settings. Any Ideas?
Ok got my last RB493AH out of the bin. Booted it up it has 3.11 os on it didnt make a change to it. Checked the ethernet ports and it looked ok. Assigned ether9 as a dhcp setting and made a backup file. Took that backup file and loaded it into the funky rb493 and loaded it. That straighten the ports out. Now the big question WHY? How can a backup file change the hardware ethernet port assignments or scramble them up? Also why didnt a system reset not change things back to factory defaults?
All of this started when I decided that I needed to up my RB333 running 3.17 to a RB493 to get the extra ethernet ports. I made a backup file and transfered it to the RB493.
The strange thing is a few weeks back I changed a RB333 out to a RB493AH and I did the same thing. That is make a backup file and load it in to the RB493AH I did’nt have these kind of problems.
