RB493G freezes with SiL3512 SATA-controller plugged in

Hi,

the RB493G freezes when powering on if the SIL3512 SATA-controller MiniPCI-card is plugged in. Power and user LED are just lit and nothing more happens. There’s no output on the serial console either. The SIL3512 uses the Base-BIOS 4.5.02 (Non-Raid version). It works fine in a Linux-PC with a Routerboard 11.

Does anybody have an idea what’s going wrong?

Thanx for any hint.

There are no any hints. This device will not work with RB493G - there have no drivers for this controller. Why You think that it should work? See this hardware compatibility list. RouterOS is not usual linux. You can try to install other OS (OpenWRT for example) and compile custom linux core with support of this controller, if it possible. Also i think that there is a hardware uncompatibility, if RB493G had freeze. This routerboard have a COM-port, so You can plug into this port and observe loading process…

I have installed OpenWRT 15.05.1 and the kmod-sata-SIL package. OS shouldn’t be a problem. The serial console doesn’t show any output. If the SIL3512 is plugged in neither the OS nor the Mikrotik bootloader start.

Then oops… Probably RouterBoot cannot configure this card for normal work. Mini PCI cards support PnP, but PnP should be supported by hardware and software (BIOS, EFI or BootLoader).
