Hi there,
I have a new RB5009 upgrading from my hEX S. Question, when I was trying to connect the wire from my modem cable internet to the WAN-ethernet port, I don’t get an IP address. Configuration mode, Router. Address acquisition, Automatic. So, I called Mikrotik Canada, the guy said, I have to setup DHCP client. But, my old hEX S will automatically get an IP address from the modem once I plug the ethernet cable to the WAN port.
My PPPoE and Static are working fine, but not the Automatic. Is there something wrong with my new RB5009 device or I have to setup DHCP client to get an IP? Any help would greatly appreciated, thanks.
When using PPPoE you don’t need an (additional) DHCP client. That is handled by the PPPoE client itself. Or is IP supplied through DHCP?
Can you share config of both routers? And what do you mean by “My PPPoE and Static are working fine”?
Did you poweroff/poweron the ISP modem ? Might also be something “MAC” related in the sense that the cable-modem expects the MAC of the hEX S.
Apart from that, yes you need to configure “DHCP Client” on the RB5009 in order to obtain an ISP-address.
Specify the correct “WAN” port on your RB5009
Leave all the settings like “Use Peer DNS” “Use Peer NTP” and “Add Default Route”
Hi erlinden, I'm trying to answer your last question, you know when you connect your ethernet cable to your WAN port from your modem, you will see there are three options that says: Static, Automatic and PPPoE. That was it. Thanks for your help!
Hi jvanhambelgium, Yes, I followed your guide doing the DHCP client option, and I automatically getting an IP from my cable internet provider! It’s all good now! wow, my old hEX s and new RB5009 are two different configurations, now I know. Thank you very much, sir!
Have a nice day! ![]()
