RB5009 sometimes slow, fixed by rebooting

Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with my MikroTik router where the internet speed becomes very slow after some time. However, when I reboot the router, the speed returns to normal. This happens randomly, sometimes after a few hours, sometimes after a few days.

my network topology is:
ISP router → RB5009 → switch
My laptop connected to switch via LAN

Router Details:
Model: RB5009UPr+S+
RouterOS Version: 7.12.2 (stable)
Connected Devices: less than 50

Symptoms:
Internet speed slows down significantly.
High latency or packet loss in some cases.
CPU and RAM usage seem normal.
No heavy bandwidth usage detected.
Issue is temporarily resolved by rebooting the router.

Troubleshooting Done:
Checked CPU and memory usage – No unusual spikes.
Checked logs – No critical errors found.
Disabled any unnecessary services.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to diagnose and permanently fix this issue?

Thanks in advance for any help!

First step: apply 7.18.1 on that device.

When issue still occurs, export config for review.

Did you make any changes on the (default) firewall?

@erlinden WHY?
The previous poster ( some guy with puke green lettering) asked for the config, wait, be patient, dont distract the OP LOL

Because my crystal ball said so.

No worries m8, you will remain the best distractor :sunglasses:

If implying scatterbrained…guilty!
