RB5009 - What USB storage are you using?

Hi,

for the users of you which are using containers on the RB5009 with external USB storage attached.
Which drive models exactly do you use with the RB5009? Especially, asking about robust (long lifetime) USB flash drives and USB SSDs which can directly be powered by the 5V/1A of the RB5009 (e.g. I checked the Samsung Portable T7 but this one would go up to 5V/1.5A).

Note: This question goes a bit into the direction of http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/long-term-effects-of-ssd-hdd-connected-to-5009-router/167238/1

Thanks,

Thomas

I am not using the RB5009 but when it comes to reliable USB / Flash storage, you’d normally go for (p)SLC based NANDs.

On other occasions, where the reliability is key, i.e. because the flash drive / its S/N gets tied with a software license, I am using the ones from swissbit: https://www.swissbit.com/en/products/nand-flash-products/usb-products/#usb-drives

I use two different USB storage on two RB5009 without problems so far (except the occasional USB drive renaming on reboot breaking containers, but that’s a ROS issue):

A Startech USB to SATA adapter connected to a Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" 256GB SATA SSD I had lying around from a disfunct notebook PC:

Off topic: on which version are your devices ? Since, I think, 7.8 or so, I haven’t seen this happening anymore.
Before yes, it almost made me completely forego use of containers.
Now it’s quite stable.
Only reboots I do are with upgrades or a very occasional power outage (experienced one last Sunday, was the first one this year)

I still see this occasionally on 7.9.2. It is much better than it was with 7.7 where it happened on every reboot. But it still happens rarely.

Ah, but I am avoiding that version (or related) like the plague
Too much wifi issues there on AX devices and since I have one RB5009 acting as capsman for some cap AX and hAP AX3, it’s preferred to not use 7.9 there either, I would think.
