RB5009 Which firmware to use ?

Hello,

I need to deploy a new router on a remote site.
This router must NAT and load balance traffic from for 3 internal LAN to two WAN uplinks (from the same ISP).
Each uplink has 500 or 600 Mb/s download capacity.

I’ve just got a brand new RB5009UG+S+IN (with 7.0.5 installed).
I’m hesitant to use this new RB5009UG+S+IN or an older CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+.

  1. Is it safe to upgrade to 6.49 as offered by current 7.0.5 menu ?
  2. Which firmware is currently recommended for RB5009UG+S+IN ? Staying with 7.0.5 or upgrading 7.1rc5 or else ?
  3. Which router would you pick ?

Cheers

  1. No, the RB5009 does not support any rOS v6, only v7.
  2. According with Mikrotik support the 7.1rc4 ( now rc5) is better than the 7.0.5
  3. I would chose the RB5009 because is newer and cheaper, but this is just my opinion.

P.S. I never tried any tile-based cpu, so, it may be better to wait someone that have experience with tile routers to be sure.

If this is a critical business link, then you need to use the CCR unit and suggest the lastest LONG TERM firmware.
I have this product it works great for multiwan etc…

Until the RB5009 hits production release, its not suitable for a business environment.
