my RB5009UG+S+IN is mounted in a 19" rack and directly one position above a network switch is located which currently gets a little bit warm, because of the RB5009. As the switch has a operating temperature range of up to 40°C and the heatsink of the RB5009 is at around 40-45°C I tend to either interchange the positions of the RB5009 and my switch in the rack (putting the switch below and the RB5009 on top) or adding a small fan.
However, for the RB5009 I only have exactly 1 HE space at the moment, so adding a fan is a bit a challenge. For the future I am planning to have a L009UiGS-RM beside the rB5009 (beside each other and not on top of each other). Just as a side note.
Does anyone have a good solution for some additional cooling airflow? I’m thinking about simply putting a small fan on the front, back or on the side of the RB5009. My RB5009 is currently placed at the bottom position of its 1 HE slot, so there is around 0.5 HE available on the front for some airflow.
Otherwise (if noone here has a cool idea ) I have to change the positions of my switch and the RB5009.
Since one of great features of RB5009 is passive cooling, and since hot air tends to raise, I’d swap the switch and RB5009 places so that 5009 is higher. Additionally I’d mount RB5009 to top position in rack-mount bracket which would create (a small) gap between the two devices.
For your future setup, both RB5009 and L009 can be mounted next to each other with the same brackets.
(actually up to 4 of those casings can fit in that same bracket pair)
Exactly, the RB5009 is absolutely fine, but my switch above the RB5009 is “grilled” a little bit
I will definitely do so, thanks for this hint.
Also the RB5009 and L009 will be mounted side-by-side, I already got the information that this is possible with the brackets.
Just of curiosity:
Has someone here ever stacked 4x RB5009 in a 1 HE slot? How will the temperatures behave, especially for the top-mounted devices which are additionally warmed from the bottom?
Even that the question is a bit off-topic: Has someone a date when L009 will be available in the shops?
It's a passively cooled TP-Link T2600T-28TS (Operating Temperature: 0℃ ~ 40℃) and those 40°C could be problematic if the RB5009 heats with around 45°C from the bottom
I very much doubt you have 40 Celsius inside the rack.
If that was the case, every device would be a lot hotter.
Maybe try with a temperature sensor before worrying too much and if you really have 40 Celsius there, maybe try an exhaust fan or two on the whole rack.
