RB532, 333, 600... The REAL difference

Hi everyone!

My english is poor, so, sorry for any mistake…

I use some RB532A and some RB133 in my wireless network, and I am very happy with the results. Every one in each place, depending on what I need.

But what I would like to know is about the other RBs, for better understanding of what became an RB600 an “extreme performance AP”, with “almost” the same processor than RB532A (266/400 with memory 64Mb), wich is an “performance AP router”. I never knew a lot about processors, and I would like to know if this difference is because of MPC8343E instead of MIPS32 4Kc… But what does it means?? I believe that maybe there is other things that may differ, but how much, and what??

This question is pertinent, because when I think in better performance, I imagine more processor and more memory… But this not seems to be a rule with RB… Yesterday, a friend asked me if he shoud make a Mikrotik server with an PC with an 1.2Ghz and 256 Mb of memory… I told him to buy an RB532A. I made some servers with PCs, but I am replacing ALL to RBs. I know that the results will be better to him, but I need to understand why!

Thanks for reading, and every additional information will be welcome!

just read the performance comparison on http://www.routerboard.com/comparison.html

max speed of RB532 is 46000pps
mas speed of RB600 is 100000pps

why do you think CPU are almost the same, the architectures are different, so you can’t compare frequency. Also the RB600 has Gigabit ethernet ports and more miniPCI slots

Ok, Normis, I agree.

I do not think CPUs are almost the same, it was the way I´ve found to try to explain that I know that they are different (almost is quoted), but I just need to understand how. For me, who have no aknowlegments about the architectures used, the frequency ever was the reference. As I told, I knew that something may differ, but was not clear to me. Is about that difference of architectures that I would like to know more deeper…

I´ve found the link “Throughput comparison” in comparison page, thank you, it was very appreciated.
