RB532 not booting

This is all I’m getting out of an older RB532 via the console cable. The unit was working when pulled from a production site. The site was upgraded to a P4 based rack mount MT router for capacity/expansion requirements.

What is the best method to restoring this board or should I just send it in for repair?

Thanks,

Brad

RouterBOOT booter 1.2

RouterBoard 532

CPU frequency: 333 MHz
Memory size: 32 MB

Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup..
loading kernel from nand… OK
setting up elf image… OK
jumping to kernel code
Starting…
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: 23: cannot create /var/run/utmp: Cannot allocate memory
System halted.

you can try to install latest routeros with netinstall

For really hard-to-get-rid-off problems I’d suggest

  • first formating the NAND from the BIOS of the RB532
  • then netinstall the desired firmware version onto it

This has just today helped me to get a RB532 back that was just rebooting randomly, but constantly (i.e. uptime of between 0 and 20 seconds, then rebooting). In some other cases that has helped, too.

By formating the NAND from the BIOS you will NOT loose your license!
