RB600/RB800 SFP Daughtercard?

I have seen a few requests for some kind of SFP slot. Mikrotik hasn’t said anything about that, but what about making a daughtercard with SFP slots?

Any thoughts?

I don’t think it makes sense to have SFP if you are limited to the PCI speed

Doesnt the RB800 have a mini-pcie expansion slot?

I was thinking RB600. RB800 yes, has PCIe x4

sfp can be used to connect directly a fiber without add a media converter!

Good old PCI is 133MB/s, which would be enough for almost all our customers. You’ll be CPU limited before you hit 1Gbps on the RB600 anyway.

Not that it helps us though, we’d need a 1U rack mountable cabinet for it and that’s difficult with a daughterboard.

good old PCI is 1Gbps and that is max possible throughput with all the overhead of the bus. So you can get maximum of about 800Mbps from that bus of useful data.
