RB600 to RB1000 migration..help!

Hi all.

I’ve been running a hotspot service for just over a year now with an RB600 (with two XR2s) as my base router and access point. There are about 8 repeaters (each with client and AP radios) that are ‘routed’ through the RB600.

We’ve grown and need to move up, so i just laid hands on an RB1000. But it’s not clear what the configuration will be.

  1. I want to use the RB1000 as base router, cache, userman etc
  2. I want to convert the RB600 and its radios to plain APs, connected by LAN to an RB1000 interface
  3. I want to add an RB433 with 1 radio as a 3rd AP (i don’t want 3 cards in the RB600), connected by LAN another RB1000 interface

I’ve setup the RB1000 and i can browse just fine with a cable from one of the ether ports, but i want to know what the configuration for the APs will be (bearing in mind that the RB600 has repeaters routed through it).

you can just set RB600 as a bridge wireless AP. It will be the same if you use cable to interface of RB1000.
If you want to use 2 ethernet on RB1000 connected to 2 APs, move the hotspot service to a bridge, and put those two ethernet as member of bridge port.
