RB600

(Client)
Hi there

Im wondering if someone can assist me.

We run a wireless distribution at a school here in port Elizabeth.

We use user manager on this network.

There are about 7 distribution points around the grounds and they all link
to a RB600 which runs the user manager.

Its been working for the past few years. This year tho, about February/March
they were struggling to get devices to connect to any of the AP’s.

We went out and removed the mac address in userman and readded it, we tried
upgrading the AP’s, nothing worked.

We ended up resetting the RB600 and redoing everything on it.

Client had to then add all the mac addresses to userman from scratch. This
was working for about 2 weeks then the problem popped up again.

We set the security profile on some AP’s to default and set default
authenticate to yes so that they can connect without having to be on
userman. I could see a lot more users connecting to a AP but client now says
he cant get any more connected.

Please, if you know anything I can try, let me know. Also if you need more
info.

Thanks

However certain levels of the MikroTik licenses can only handle so many concurrent VPN & Radius connections.
From what I recall the RB600/A came out with a L4 license. Perhaps the solutions is to upgrade the MikroTik license to L5 or L6. Each wireless AP can only handle a limited amount of concurrent connections regardless of specifications of the radius server.

Hi chris

The RB 600 is on a lvl 6 licence so its user manager accounts is unlimited.

Then one AP “collegeomni” with security profile on default gets about 30 people connecting to it. With security profile on radius, it will only have about 5 people on, even tho the other 25 are also on usermanager. And it does not allow any more on.

Some AP’s never have more than 6 people on them when not using radius, but put radius back on and they cant connect.

All the AP’s are obviously lvl4 licence. Some use cm9 radios, one uses R52hn radio and 2 new ones we put up use 2.4 grooves, but regardless of this, whether the signal is good or bad, they are struggling to connect.

I have tried the mikrotik forums searching for similar problems/solutions and tried googling but come up empty handed.

First of all, I would make sure the client actually does have a L6 license. It might be possible he is mistaken.

This is what mikrotik replied me with.

I do not see any error about session limit at logs. The only error that I see is this,
00:38:49 manager, error, info, debug INTERNAL ERROR: router 172.16.18.14 is in active list, but not in the database

Perhaps User Manager database is damaged or broken, that’s why users are not able to login.
Try to rebuild User Manager database at first point.

Thanks

The school has been using user manager for more than 3 years (longer than I have been working for Amobia)

This issue started up this year.

About a 2 months ago this issue started happening. We went out and reset the RB600 to default and set everything up from scratch. Same with the userman. We set it up from scratch and client had to start adding all the users again. It was working fine for about 3 weeks then started happening again.

Could the physical memory on the rb600 maybe cause it as I see it is full.

Im just not sure what could cause this. Ive had my core guys look too and we just cant figure this out.

Morning

Any suggestions?
Any help?

Thanks
