RB711-5HnD - What is my maximum throughput?

Bandwidth_Test_HotelWirelessLink.JPG
I am using two RB711-5HnD Router Boards for a wireless link to the ADSL exchange - they stole our copper lines 3 times in just over 6 months, so the Telco gave us permission to link wirelessly (at our expense). As wonderful as the Microtik products are, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of product specific information out there.

This forum has helped me immensely, and is probably the only reason I have my +/- 2KM link running at around 56Mbps in each direction.

I am using the outdoor antenna on this page: http://www.poynting.co.za/directorylisting/displaycommercial.aspx?dirid=55 (A-WLAN-0016)

I set the RB at the exchange on Bridge, and the one on our side as Station-Bridge.

I have no idea what the maximum throughput is, and was wondering if someone could tell me if I am getting the maximum use of my equipment?

I am using the Nstream V2.0 protocol, and I realise I’ll probably get a lower throughput with a TCP/IP test, but I was just so thrilled that I got it working I only noticed that later.

No replies? :open_mouth:

Anyway, I tested the TCP connection and came up with 30Mbps each way. Our Telco linked us today and I performed an ADSL speed test - same as having a fixed line, and pings to a server 350km away are exactly the same as before (32ms). I like it.

Then the whole frikkin ADSL exchange went down. :frowning:

speeds seem to be reasonable as you are testing wireless (that is not duplex) link in both directions. You can find what results others report with 2 chain 802.11n link here in the forums

Maybe 2xSXT would be a better option.
