Just received a RB711-5Hn with OS 411, which is just powered up and saw as usual the wireless card disabled until activated,
so my first step was to export file=411backup which gave me a the rsc file, then i transfered the routeros-mipsbe-3.30.npk which i want to test the RB711 on,
[admin@MikroTik] /system package> print
Flags: X - disabled
I then downgraded by reboot, and now the RB711-5Hn was 3.30 but then i discovered "NO" wireless interface/card
[admin@MikroTik] /interface> print
Flags: D - dynamic, X - disabled, R - running, S - slave
NAME TYPE MTU L2MTU
0 R ether1 ether 1500 1526
just ethernet only, so unless i have missed or omitted another package for 3.30 the wireless card was not installed,
Strange as i did post a question could 3.30 be used with RB711 and received a answer with a link 711 + V3.30+password reset
I could upgrade to 411 but that will only after a test period that 411 will not cause any issues with my network which running on 3.30 and is very stable,
It works fine with all those versions, but some of the features (like N support) were only added later. Plus your device manual states that this device works only with v4.11 and above!
Not sure how the statement “It works fine with all those versions,..” when clearly when used on V3.30 the built-in wireless card was not installed but yes it works fine if you just use the ethernet connection?
Mikrotik needs to provide crosslinks for information on its products and not at present having to check, Wiki, routerboard, Mikrotik, forum, etc. For information?
When you purchase this device, in it’s “First use” instructions it’s written that it supports RouterOS v4.11 and newer. What did you expect when you downgrade to a version more than a year old?
All our products (and generally all products of any company) are shipped with software that works with it, if you install something old, well …
Ok from your reply -
(1) first you purchase
(2) you read "first Instructions"
(3) more than a year is "old"
I have started running a business which is 100% Mikrotik and top priority for me is stability, I do not subscribe to the policy “newer is better” I would rather have a stable network with average performance than fast and unstable.
For me "old and realiable" is much better,
I now find another issue in trying to upgrade back to 4.11
However you learn something everyday, many thanks sorted now, next to test the 4.11 to my “OLD” V3.30 totally stable network before i do a complete network upgrade?
From reading other posts OSPF maybe a issue across various ROS on a network , read about OSPF feedback loops being used to fix,
Also not sure how PPPoE will run, my opinion about Mikrotik is less issues happen (?) when only one OS is used for entire network but with a mix and match anything can happen?
