I am considering to get a RB750GL. Currently I am using a router with integrated cablemodem, installed by the provider with a speed of 50 MBit/s. The RB750GL should act as a VPN gateway between the cablemodem/router and my private network so the whole traffic is going over the VPN connection and no need for clients in my home network to have any special configuration or software installed. So my questions are:
-is the RB750GL capable to handle VPN on fast connection of 50 MBit/s ?
-does the VPN gateway functionality work right out of the box with the RouterOS?
-which protocols are supported / which vpn providers have you used successfully on this router acting as VPN gateway?
I am not clear on what you mean by VPN gateway, The way you describe clients connected on your LAN are you just asking if the MikroTik will act as a firewall from the outside internet world?

I think it depends on the encryption level you use. last time i benchmarked a 750 (UP, not GL), i was capped around 35Mbs with 100%CPU, using a IPSec link with aes-128 encryption.
750’s are entry products with veeeery small price, they are not shipped with big CPUs. On routerboard.com, there are benchmarks done by mikrotik (see for example http://routerboard.com/RB750GL , end of page). You can use that data to estimate the device you need.

yes, all you need is configure it.
which protocols are supported
L2TP, PPTP, IPSEC, openVPN, SSTP, PPPoE, PPP, EoIP (maybe some are not considered as VPN, not sure), I tried windows PPTP clients, Cisco IPSec and it worked fine; of course all protocols work fine with mikrotik devices at both ends.
