Apologies for the very basic question but I keep running into issues: I would like to configure my RB750Gr3 as a POE powered switch. I would like all 5 ports switched and will use ether1 as POE in. I would also like to assign a static address so I can log into the switch and change things around or update as the case may need. I continue to have issues where in bridge mode, it assigns DHCP address in the 0.0.0.XX range. Removing that removes my ability to log into the switch. Is there a step by step guide somewhere to help me out on something basic that I must be missing?
Thanks!
Mark
Hello,
Just add all the ports to the bridge, assign an IP Address to this brdge and add a default route.
Be aware of the max speeds you can get. Check the below link
Hardware accelerated bridging mode in recent versions is out-of-cpu non blocking full-speed switching.
Thank you for the reply. So I can create a new bridge and add the ports to it. How do I assign an IP address to it and add a default route? Again, apologies, but new to the Router OS world…
Hello, just go to /ip Address and add the corresponding address to your bridge.
And /ip route for your default route.
Do you use Winbox or Webfig?
I am using Winbox. And again, sorry to be basic, but what are the particulars of assigning a default route?
Thanks so much for your help!
When using winbox, you don’t need a (static) Ip address. Just click the mac address in neighbors tab and connect.
Then you can update bridge settings etc., as long as you don’t disable interfaces you will be able to (re)connect via mac.
(Also, you don’t need a default route if you are in the same subnet)
The default route is needed if you want Internet directly on your router (for updates,…)
You’re correct, but then you’ll also need to set DNS.
Of course
And the DNS is just the ip of the router on the same subnet?
Yes you can use these DNS
