Rb751 - appears to be broken

Hi all,

I will admit I’m fairly new to Microtik, I bought a rb751 from a colleague at work, I work for an ISP but networking is not my strong point. Anyway I’ve many problems for example when the sync drops it will not reconnect.

The other day I uploaded v6.3 and logged in, same problems persisted and struggled to get connected. I was then cross jumpered at the exchange. This morning I logged in to see if I could dial the connection, it appeared to work.I had been planning to reset the configuration in case all my previous problems of the ppp interface connecting but no traffic were my fault, I pressed reset configuration from the quick set menu on the home page.

My physical jumpering was fixed this afternoon.

My problem is that the switch appears to be dead, the lights show and respond to an ethernet cable being plugged and unplugged, but nothing will obtain an ip address. The wireless is not showing my AP that I changed it to as expected, it shows Microtik-FB1213 and wants a password???

I’ve tried rebooting and factory resetting to no avail multiple times. To all intents and purposes it appears bricked, if anybody has any idea what is happening I’d appreciate your help.

Many thanks

Dan

MikroTik-FB1213 as your SSID means that you somehow managed to reset your router to defaults. It’s not broken. The password for wireless is the Serial Number of the router (see sticker). If you don’t get an address, it means DHCP server is not configured. Try to enable it in Quickset.

Hi Normis,

Thank you for your prompt assistance, much appreciated.

I will certainly try that.

Again thank you.

Hi Normis,

I have since managed to get connected via the wireless, assigned an address manually of 192.168.88.245, gateway 192.168.88.1. I cannot ping it or connect, I assume that the ip range has not changed? I’ve tried in Ubuntu and Win XP to make sure I was not being daft, I’ve also tried an ethernet cable as well to no avail.

Again thanks for your help, it is appreciated.
