Hey guys, so firstly, sorry to be coming in here as a complete networking noobie. I’m very keen to learn how to use one of these routers properly though. Before I start trying to do what I want to do with it though I want to ask if it’s even possible with this router.
So, existing network config is Netgear CG3000v2 in bridge mode (because they’re crap and it was supplied by the ISP) plugged into a Billion 7800n, from there there’s a few dumb switches around the house giving network to things like devices on the TV unit.
I have two RB751’s that I’d like to replace my Billion with. One of them taking over it’s role as primary router and the other just acting as an AP at the other end of the house, but I’ll come back to that.
What I have the Billion doing right now is acting as the main router, DHCP, WIFI. I have a heap of port forwards for gaming stuff, like hosting the odd ARMA 3 server at home for some friends, so all traffic coming in on port 2302 for example gets sent to a specific internal IP.
What I’m looking to do is mimic all the same functions with the RB751 but I’d also like to limit bandwidth on one of the ports from the gateway. I can’t do this with a Billion and I’m hoping it’s possible with the RB751. We’re getting a Fetch IPTV box soon and I don’t want the streaming of video in the lounge room impacting other devices on the network, is there any way to say that a specific port on the router only gets x% or x mbps from the gateway?
