RB751 - RouterOS 5.18 - PPPoE client on slave port

Hello,

I used to have a PPPoE client connected to a modem over ether1-gateway port (the one dedicated to ADSL on the RB751). Everything worked fine, until during a storm, a lightning burned my modem. It seems that it also burned the ethernet port on my RB751, since it won’t come up when I plug in the UTP cable. The rest of the ports on the switch are working fine, so I’m now trying to make PPPoE client work with a different port. All I did was to switch from the gateway port to a new slave port in the switch, and it now stays on Dialing… and Terminating… loop for ever, and the interface won’t come up.
If I try to do it on the modem, it works fine, so it’s not my ADSL line. I can access the internet using the ADSL modem as a router, and my RB751 as another router behind it, though I would like for the RB751 to be the router, and the ADSL modem only act as a bridge. What am I missing here? Is it possible to use the PPPoE client on a different port other than ether1-gateway? I also tried setting the master port setting to “none” on the slave port connected to the modem, and didn’t work. Note, that when trying this setup, I set the ADSL modem to pure bridge mode for the PVC to access the PPPoE server from my ISP, which is what it was setup on my original config.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello,

on my routerboard 750GL the only thing i need to do is set the master port setting to “none” and my config works on routeros 5.22 .

Do you solve your problem ?

By the way thanks for the tip about the master port setting

Nah, I finally gave up a long ago, since I needed to change the router anyway, because I need dual band wifi
