RB751G-2HnD Throughput

Hi,

Having recently subscribed to Virgin Media 300mb service in the UK I’m seeing lower that expected results when using the RB751G-2HnD.

When connecting directly to the supplied cable mode I see my expected results of around ~280Mb/s. When connecting via the RB751G-2HnD and placing the cable modem in passthrough mode I see around ~150Mb/s. When checking the hardware specs I see that the RB751G-2HnD should be able to deliver 457MB/s with <25 IP Filter rules (I don’t have this many) but I consistently not seeing this. When running a speed test I do see the 400mhz cpu spike from anywhere between 80% to 100%.

Do you think I’m reaching the capacity of the 400Mhz CPU hence not achieving the full 300Mb/s line speed?
Anyone else successfully running this setup?

My laptop is connected directly the the RB751G-2HnD and I’m bridging a test VLAN to Ethernet3 just in case the bridge could potentially be causing the issue

Thanks

Michael

It depends. If you use fasttrack you might be able to nat that speed between two ethernet interfaces. Hard to say how much will it be influenced by software vlan in cpu…
