Hello,
I was trying to enable external antenna and gain some wireless range, its for a home router installation.
Is it good to use this antenna with the external connector and pigtail/pigtail adapter?
Do I have to rise the antenna gain value in wireless configuration?
Any advice will be apreciated, because I cant notice better signal on connecter devices, for the contrary it get worse…
Thanks,
Here the configuration settings as told in the manual, my antenna picture and winbox config…
Antenna: 2.4 GHz 8 dBi TL-ANT2408C

Why you disable chain 0?
Can/must be active at the same time.
Remember: more gain, more interferencies, more difficult the device on other side can be “heared”.
The wireless link are composed of two device, is perfectly futil increase only one side, also the other side must pass obstacles to reach the RouterBOARD.
Thanks for your reply Rextended!
I disabled chain 0 because it is what I understood by reading the manual and some other posts, but if it is wrong I have just re-enable it.
I understand what you wrote about “more gain, more interferencies”, the antenna I installed its a 8dBi one, so I thought giving it more power would make full use of it… correct me please if its worng.
I will rewrite my questions, hoping to understand right!
Is of any use having an external antenna like the one I post here?
To enable it, I just have to set Antenna Mode to antenna-b?
Is it of any use having only the external antenna as rx/tx or do I have to use always the built in antenna?
What is the use of the external connector?
Thanks for you kind responses!
S.
Thank you! you have clarified a lot!
I will configure two of these routers with antennas and WDS as soon as I can at office.
This is an old thread but I was setting up an rb751u for wireless link with a yagi antenna the other day. Having both chains enabled really killed performance. I was getting a patchy 2Mbit/s with both enabled and this went up to 20+ with chain 0 disabled. I was also able to get a couple hundred meters where before the 200m link was unstable. For the 200m link I had one of the yagis pointed in the complete opposite direction (I can only point it at one repeater and there is another in the opposite direction.
