RB751U and Huawei E353 no ports detected

Hi all!

I have an RB751U running with 5.16 and a USB Huawei E353 which shows up, but has zero ports.

According to the wiki, this modem should be supported. Other USB modems, like the Ericsson MD300 shows up ok with ports.

It might be different hid/pid so here is what System/Resources/USB tells me:

Name: 0x1f01
Vendor id: 0x12d1
Device id: 0x1f01

write to support@mikrotik.com with support output file attached to the email.

I’ve had same issue with all RB411U, since RouterOS 5.15 (and 5.16) with MiniPCIe Sierra Wireless MC8705

Downgrading to 5.14 makes it work again.

[admin@MikroTik] > /system resource usb print
 # DEVICE VENDOR NAME SPEED
 0 2:1 RB400 EHCI 480 Mbps
 1 2:2 Sierra Wireless, Inco... MC8705 480 Mbps
 2 1:1 RB400 OHCI 12 Mbps

But in ports there’s nothing:

[admin@MikroTik] > /port print
Flags: I - inactive
 # NAME CHANNELS USED-BY BAUD-RATE
 0 serial0 1 Serial Console auto

After the upgrade, before full reset of the board, usb2 was in Invalid state.

I will send another mail to Mikrotik Support people.

Hope this helps,

Pau

Thanks to Mikrotik support the phantoms have dissapeared.

Now there’s a new interface lte1 with apn, user and password parameters. Better way to configure, no need of old kind serial ports…

Testing with D-Link pendrive DWM-156 works the old way with ppp-client and usbX port, so watch-out the way your 3g router works.

Another time, +1 karma to Mikrotik support team.

Hope this helps,

Pau

What did you change ? I have a RB751-2HnD with a E353 connected on 5.16 but I still see the E353 as USB port, not as lte interface.

Please give a description of its action

How do we get this lte interface ???

Only bandrich chipset LTE modems and Sierra modems that have direct-ip firmware with product ID 0x68a3 will appear in LTE menu. Others will appear in port menu, for PPP connection.

The mentioned devices when recognized in the LTE menu, will work faster than devices that are usable only from PPP menu.

Are the new Huawei HiLink 4G dongles (E3131 & E3231) in this category?

Out of the box they expose a network interface device so in windows you are up and connected within seconds. I have 2 and they show up as usb-ppp in routerOS but no modem port.

Would be great to get these supported under LTE.
