RB912UAG-2HPnD reinstall?

Hi,

I have a brand new RB912G, and have been trying to get it configured.

I was making progress, but have had a major setback.

Port scanning using nmap (via zenmap front end) shows the router appears to be at the expected 192.168.88.1.
with a reasonable set of open tcp ports: 21, 22, 23, 53, 80, 2000, 8291, and it identifies it as a mikrotik box.

But, I cannot connect to it.

telnet says it’s connected, and informs me of the escape character, but I don’t get a login prompt.
ssh spins its wheels and never connects
http says it’s waiting for a response and never connects, then times out.

I’ve tried the screwdriver shorting the reset connection during boot, but that doesn’t seem to help.

I have not found a recovery procedures covering this situation.

I don’t have a serial port. I don’t know how long to hold the screw driver in place. I can’t connect to the router to do some preliminary setup.

Turn wireless off on your computer. Go to network connections and select properties and then hilite internet protocal, select properties, select "use following address and enter this IP,
192.168.88.5 then 255.255.255.0, then click okey.

This assigns a static Ip to your computer in the same range as the Mikrotik.

Now, connect a standard either cable between your computer and the Mikrotik then open your browser and in the address bar enter 192.168.88.1.

That should open the Mikrotik interface and allow for doing setups.

Do you have Winbox? If you do not do to the Mikrotik web site (mikrotik.com), select down loads, down the page under tools, select winbox and save on your computer.

Winbox is a very fast and easy way to do all your setups.

With the static IP, open winbox, then at the top between the address bar and the connect button is a small box with … in it, click on it and it will show the device then click on the IP and then the connect button and you can now setup the devise.

Tere is also a user manual under the support tab.

I tried the above before posting the question. Although nmap reports port 80 http is open. Attempts to connect with a web browser wait for a response from the router, then time out.

Winbox prints out the following on the console the first time I try to connect after I cycle power on the router.

If I try again with without cycling power on the router I just get

Right now I’m thinking maybe I consistently made a typo when following this section of the initial configuration guide http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Initial_Configuration#Router_user_accounts And I don’t know the actual password.

I’ve tried shorting the reset hole with a screw driver but have not known when to release for sure. There are blinking lights, and a noise maker.

Anyway as far as I can tell I’m supposed to try netinstall at this point, but unlike winbox, it doesn’t recognize the router.

Hi,
I tried but it does not work:

  1. Push the reset button
  2. Turn on the RB
  3. The LEDs illuminate ALL, then flashing, then turn off
  4. look up to when I hear a sound
  5. Turn off the RB
  6. Turn on the RB
  7. I don’t see it from WinBOX

Why?
