Hi,
I’ve got RB931-2nD hAP mini connected through a 100Mb ethernet cable to my primary router.
My internet connection is rated 50/50 Mbps and it usually stays around this value when measured from my primary router (an old Turris 1.0).
When connected over wifi to the primary router the measured speed is usually somewhat lower - at the moment it shows 42Mbps.
However with wifi via MikroTik it’s a disaster. The download speed only reaches 16 Mbps. Upload is identical to the connection via primary router.
It’s happening with OS 6.47 as well as 6.45.9.
Changing from auto channel to a fixed one has no effect.
no encryption vs. wpa2psk - no difference
I observe the cpu load doesn’t exceed 15% and is usually well below that. There’s only 8MB RAM used.
From the MikroTik tools I ran Speed Ping to the primary router and the average is 100Mbps.
I can see the mikrotik interface’s Rx and Tx rates are 72.2 Mbps
I am 4 meters from the device. There are very few other wifi APs around and they’re distant.
Is there anything else I might try? Is the 7.0 beta OS reasonably safe (reverting to stable OS expected to work) on this device?
I’m new to MikroTik, I’ve bought the device because it’s compatible with OpenWRT but I’m willing to give the native OS a try
Today it got down to 0.5/0.5 Mbps
I wasn’t even able to log-in, ping went up astronomically:
ping 192.168.88.1
…
112 packets transmitted, 106 received, 5% packet loss, time 111207ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 1.469/2601.059/10148.631/2533.059 ms, pipe 11
I rebooted it, I could log in, but the ping and bandwidth stayed miserable. Only after second reboot I am back at 18/10 Mbps, while with the primary router I get 55/16.
Patience is over. I’ll let you know how it fares with openwrt.
I see that your old turris is MIMO 3x3 (an advantage from MIMO 2x2 of hAP mini).
Most probably if you disable Turris wifi and use only on Mikrotik, You Will get better results because you will get less interference, but anyway hAP capabilities will be limited.
Anyway today (now yes) I will do the tests in some hours.
Edit:
Here I have SXT2 + BaseBox2 + Movistar Dual Band Router and this is the results with default configuration.
