Have installed a RB 951-2n in a customer’s home. The unit is configured as a bridge with all ports in the bridge. Static IP.
Everything seems fine, and customer connects their iPhones and an iPad without problems. After a couple of minutes, the signal from the AP drops significantly, and connection is lost. After a few more minutes, the signal is back, but stays for only a few minutes. Then the “dropout” occurs again.
I checked (with an app on my Android phone) for any interference from other wifi units, but found only one other unit - at a different channel and a very weak signal. Location is in the countryside - far from other buildings. Have tried different wifi channels and different channel widths (20 and 20/40MHz) with same result.
The very same 951 unit has worked well in my office for several months, but then configured as a router.
Any ideas? (Have seen some info about Apple products and Mikrotik don’t work well together, but don’t know anything more about it)…
Browsed through the log and could not see any reboots.
In addition, the AP does not “go away”, but output seems to drop to a very low level. The monitoring I’ve used shows a normal signal of approx. -40dBm. This drops to around -70dBm when the problem shows up. I’ll switch to another power supply, however.
Have been thinking of radar detection, but since this is indoor and 2.4GHz, it shouldn’t be anything like this.
Probably isn’t the power supply, then. My next guess would be a faulty radio. If time is more important than money, or if you have another 951 in stock, I would just swap it out. If the problem goes away, RMA the original one. If it doesn’t go away, then the dance gets more interesting.
Thanks again!
Yes, agree that checking another device. Have several units on the shelf . 951G 2HnD, 951UI 2HnD and even hAP ac lite. Will give it a try and report back.
As you say - if same thing happens with one of these, it’s getting more interesting…
