Hi,
Recently I bought a RB951G-2HnD unit having the following relevant characteristics:
Architecture Name mipsbe
Board Name RB951G-2HnD
Version 6.44.5 (long-term)
Build Time Jul/04/2019 10:32:21
Factory Software 6.44
Model RB951G-2HnD
Serial Number 96500BF5BD1E
Firmware Type ar9344
Factory Firmware 6.44
Current Firmware 6.44.5
Upgrade Firmware 6.44.5
The router works fine but today I found out that I’m not able to reset at factory defaults from the hardware button. Trying the reset by holding reset button during the power up I observed that ACT led do not start blinking anymore (as ussual) and the router boot normaly (I’m familiar with Mikrotik routers and I tried this several times). On the other hand the router can be reset from System->Reset configuration. Also the Protected Routerboot parameter is not setted.
Any advice around this issue? Could be a software issue or a hardware one? (I mention that the router is new).
Sorry, this was a useless question. The button may be broken, but it cannot be tested during runtime.
What does system routerboard settings print show?
Well, the command /system reset-configuration still works. In fact the router didn’t seems to have other issues. The strange thing is that ACT led didn’t start blinking when I held the button and I can’t figured out if this is a software issue or hardware problem and I should returned it back to the warranty.
The button may be broken. This sometimes happens because there is so little feedback whether you have pressed it correctly, and sometimes people react by pressing it ever firmer…
However, many models also have a hole in the circuit board where you can reset the router using anything that bridges the PCB track segments along the hole.
(e.g. a phillips screwdriver of the appropriate size)
So, I understand that no software reasons could lead at this behavior an the most probably the button is broken. I will try with the reset hole and if it fails perhaps I will send back to warranty.
Thank you guys for your answers and support.
