RBFTC11

Mikrotik support or anyone in the know…

I’m currently conducting a trial at my Fiber to the Home ISP with the RB/FTC11 Fiber converters and had a couple questions. As a background we have about 1500 FTTH subscribers already, and have purchased 100 pcs of the RB/FTC11 and have installed only a handful at new installations

  1. Will there be any possibility of firmware updates on these devices or is there any updates already? I ask because we had a couple issues with the SFP link light being on even without having a patch cable plugged in. This may have been a  particular third party SFP the converter didn’t like. I know from the forums that it’s probably just a simple hardware converter - but wanted to check before troubleshooting further. My tech’s have told me that the SFP link light seems to work “unreliably” upto and including being lit when it’s not plugged in at all - and power-cycling produces uncertain results. Actually linking up with the other side laser seems to also be a factor.

(less of a question and more of a suggestion)
2) Echoing another posters comment, is there a possibility of building an enclosure with more space for a fusion splice sleeve, pigtail slack storage etc? Currently we’re putting this outdoor fiber converter inside another outdoor fiber splice box on the customer premises - now obviously if we had a larger overall enclosure with fiber splice tray integrated into the RB/FTC11 case we could justify paying almost double for the product and reduce the customer premises footprint substantially.

Comments - love the idea, and am hoping to get the kinks in #1 above worked out so we can get those 100 units in the field and then hopefully switch to them entirely.

Thanks,

Jordan
