RBGPOE issue with Groove52A

Hi,

I have a RBGrooveGA-52HPacn which I’m planning on connecting via a long run outdoor Cat5E cable (60M max) via the RBGPOW with a 24Vdc 1.4A adapter. The cable has been used before and was working with my SXTlite for my years.

The issue I have is the RBGPOE light flashes and the Groove stays unpowered. (also no connection light on my Mikrotik switch as well). I have tried the following combinations:

RBGPOE + 60M cable + Groove52A → FAILS
RBGPOE + 1M patch cord + Groove52A → POWERS OK
RBGPOE + 60M cable + RBSXT5nDr2 → POWERS OK

I have tried with a 28Vdc 2A adapter and that fails for the Groove but works for the SXTlite.

The RBGPOE light flashes slower with the 24Vdc, and faster with the 28Vdc adapter.

Have I got too long a run for the Groove? The adapter is under powered? Or could it be my cable is dodgy and only shows up with a GigEthernet on the Groove compared with 100Mb with the SXTlite? (ie the 7/8 pairs are broken).

Note: I’ve checked the cable with a cable tester and it shows all pairs are correct, but I’m never totally convinced by the cheap testers.

Any thoughts much appreciated,

Chris

Update:

I just assumed 50metres was too long and cut the cable in half and re-spliced a new RJ45 connector on, and attached it to a different switch. It now seems to be working fine. I guess 50m is just too long for POE and the Groove52A.

Hello @ecylcje

There should not be any issues with 60M cable, it must work properly with cable up to 100M. Make sure there are no issues with cable you are using.

Check your cable category and brand. Make sure that you are using the best cable quality as possible.

Regards.
