RBLHG5-5nD : can't get it working with WPA2

I picked up two new LHG5 antennas for a very short link (less than 30m).

I’ve got everything working great. I used Quick Set and setup the antennas as PTP with one as Master (Server) and one as Slave (Client). I’m actually browsing the Internet over the connection now. The connection is line-of-sight and showing Tx/Rx CCQ over 90%.

Here’s the thing… as soon as I enable WPA2 with AES and PSK, I cannot establish the connection. At first I had a rather long and complex password, but I even tried a simple password like “testpassword” and nothing.

Out of the box both antennas came with 6.34.something and with WPA2 on, I would see the antenna attempt to connect every 30 seconds or so, and fali. When I would check the logs I’d see “disconnected, unicast key exchange timeout”.

I decided to update both antennas to the latest 6.36.3. Now, when I’m logged into the Slave and I see the Master’s broadcast SSID, I choose to connect, enter the PSK, and then it just sits there saying it is searching. Strangely, nothing shows in the log now anymore.

Again, I’m not doing ANYTHING advanced. I’m doing everything from the Quick Set tab. I don’t see what I could be doing wrong. Any advice?

post your wireless export from both sides. the error means that there is a problem with password or other security setting

Well I figured out two things:

  1. I have to enable logging of wireless events in System → Logging for the errors to turn up in Log. Apparently it was already enabled out of the box, but when I did the update to 6.36.3 it must have removed the option. After enabling wireless logging again I was getting… the same error.

  2. Quick Set just doesn’t work for a simple PTP WPA2 connection (at least in my case). Well, maybe it works for the Server side, where I simply chose WPA2 (only) and AES CCM and entered the WiFi password. But on the Client side? Just choosing the SSID from the list and entering the password was not working for me. I had to go to Wireless → Security Profiles → Default and actually enter the security info there manually: Dynamic Keys, WPA2 PSK (only), AES CCM for Unicast and Group Ciphers, and the password for WPA2 Pre-Shared Key.

It’s still a pretty simple, straightforward setup, so I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work through Quick Set, but it is successfully connected now.
