RBwAPG-60adkit questions

I recently purchased a pair of preconfigured wireless-wire devices as my FIRST Mikrotik devices. I’ve had a little trouble and now a ask a few questions. There are TWO manuals, a 4-page sheet that comes with the unit and the full RouterOS manual. Yes, I read the sheet and I am working my way through the full manual.

  1. The wireless-wire is sold as a turnkey system; connect it, power up, and use it as a wire. I was concerned that the subnet used by the routers is outside of my LAN subnet. 192.168.88.0 vs 192.168.0.0. The first thing I did was a attach to each router, using the 192.168.88.0 space, and reset IP to 192.168.0.51 and 192.168.0.71, respectively. Was I wrong? Is this thing really, really seamless.

  2. After configuring IP and (maybe) playing with other features, my two devices no longer seem to talk to eachother. LED wireless meters show no signal.

  3. If I RESET, will these go back to their pre-configured (and pairwise-matched) settings?

  4. Did I need to do anything with IPS? My LAN is in 192.168.0.1/26.

FWI, devices are about 50m apart across a parking lot. I found that angular setting is important, and at one time set it using RF-LED response. One device is outside; one is behind a window.

At one time, after adding LAN IPs to the ethernet ports, the units worked well. I then did some fiddling and lost functionality.

Don’t know if you got your setup to work. Hard to get a reply from some experts but I have installed 3 or 5 sets so far and appear to be working good.
I left the default configs for the master - 192.168.88.2/192.168.88.3 (on all three pairs installed so far.

  1. I don’t consider myself an expert yet on all the settings but first thing I do Is update the firmware using the winbox utlity (neighbors) and accessing by the clicking on the mac address (not ip to connect).
  2. I update the firmware by dropping the https://mikrotik.com/product/wireless_wire#fndtn-downloads and droping RouterOS current release into the File FOLDER (NOT INTO ANY OF THE DIRECTORY). Note: 6.44 has major performance increase
  3. System>Reboot to upgrade device - I wait about 1m 15sec to try to reconnect.
  4. Quick Set>Router Identity - I put a description of the device (since I have multiple pairs Master Device>MikroTik-Set1-Master-SE Garage to SW RV Garage; and on Slave Device - MikroTik-Set1-Slave-SW RV Garage to SE Garage - apply setting to save
  5. Quick Set>Password - which I’m changing on all devices and making them the same so I can access easily. Apply settings to change
Not doing much more than this and my computer subnet is different than 192.168.88.x - I’m not changing any of them at this time to avoid any issues. It seems like it’s not affecting anything and everything is very fast.
note: I’m making it a habit to always put master unit closest to router connection (probably does not affect but when I do any firm upgrades, I start with my farthest device out (slave units).

hope this helps.

Hi I have a question related to the kit.
There is an outside environment, max 30 meters with 1-2 trees between two buildings. Can the kit handle such environment or should I choose 5GHz WAP kit?
