rc4 bugs

Is there somewhere else MT wants me to report bugs other than here? I’ve posted 5-10 bugs in the past week and had no response. I’d rather not waste my time reporting these if they are not getting looked at / fixed.

The “official” way is to submit bugs by e-mail to support@mikrotik.com. MikroTik clearly and repeatedly stated that this forum is a user-to-user forum which is not officially monitored by MikroTik (although they are quite active here and monitor things).

I can understand that they want to have a clear incoming channel for bug reports. I wouldn’t like to have to read all messages in a forum to get bug reports - I, too, would like them sent directly to me…

Just my 2 Euro-cent

Same thing with my posts… I assume that they would ask us to email support, but then the dialog of the conversation would not be visible here on the forum to help others… Being a moderator at TV-Cards.com, I personally find it very important to discuss these things in public, where others can benifit, even if it is only one other person. I wonder how many problems I have had that were already known about beforehand, but not let known to me because they were only discussed privately via email…

My preference would be:
Report bugs by e-mail. Let them be discussed privately (because this wouldn’t be very helpful for anyone else, normally).
Then (and this part is stil missing too much) document the problem and the solution either in the forum or (better) in a public knowledge base…

My experience FWIW,

Send the bug reports in, as much detail as you can.
Don’t expect a reply, though a “can’t replicate results” response should prompt you to send more info.
And then they get things fixed - sooner or later. They’re busy guys - and it’s a complex platform that’s expected to work on a multitude of HW combinations.

Actually, I think their programmers are certainly reading the mails, and busy fixing software code, but not often replying.
In perspective, I’d rather they were fixing the code, than spending all their time replying …

I have allways sent the supout.file and som info aboute the problem to the support@mikrotik.com mail.
and they allways respond back with information werry quick.

I recommend doing it this way:

  1. always make sure you use the latest version before writing an email

  2. keep it simple and detailed. write only what you did, what did not work, how you wanted it to work. include a supout.rif that is made right after you experienced the problem.

  3. make an example of how we can reproduce the problem.

you can also post it in the forum to make sure it is not a problem of configuration
