Good afternoon.
We are planning to purchase RDS2216-2XG-4S+4XS-2XQ and CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN in order to add them to MLAG later. Both devices have the same chip. Does RDS2216-2XG-4S+4XS-2XQ support MLAG? Is it possible to combine these two devices?
Hi,
Think that you should start MLAG story reading in advance these topics.
Not saying that there would be a problem, just to be aware of potential problems.
The RDS2216 and the CCR2216 share a common platform, so MLAG should work. Word of warning though: MLAG and L3HW offload are not compatible with one another. That means if you need hardware accelerated routing (or hardware accelerated FastTrack for basic stateful firewalling) you’ll want to look at other options.
Short answer: yes, MLAG is supported. But, as stated earlier, you won’t be able to route with L3HW offload. (Honestly I’ve not tried routing with MLAG at all. The one or two times I did try, things went haywire pretty quickly).
You could, however, LAG two RDS2216’s to two other switches in an MLAG stack and have the RDS’s act as routers.
