Recent batch PSU Failures

We have been purchasing hAP AC Lite TC’s (RB952Ui-5ac2nD-TC) for our customer base for quite a while and racked up a few thousand pcs of them.

Recently the last batch we received the PSU’s are failing in a fast rate - less than a month since installation. So far we had 5 PSU’s go down with the same issue - they short and are hot to the touch.
We sent them to a shop to investigate and the first answer we got was “the worst build quality you have ever seen”.

There is a diode that gets to 75c after 5min. When it gets hot its ratings drop and it cannot cope. Have in mind this is winter time currently!!!
Point of failure , diode goes to short and we have to pay to go and replace it.

Attached pictures indicating the problem.

MikroTik - this is a serious issue. We are wasting valuable time and money in calls, visits, psu replacements and unhappy customers.
I have 3 serial numbers of the routers we managed to write down the issues once we understood that the problem was not “random”.

Please check what went wrong in the manufacturing - the older ones did not have such bad quality.

You need to mail this information to support@mikrotik.com, not post it here. This is mostly a user forum and no guarantee MT employees will see/take action on things posted here.

It is useful for the community to know. Yes, do let MikroTik know directly. They probably source these power supply units and do not make them themselves.

Oh, I agree 100%. All I’m saying is, never assume a forum posting will create a formal action item for MT engineers.

Already done that guys - just letting the community know - we are on talks with their support - hopefully we can figure out the failures and the reason.

Also putting that cap right next to it is quite stupid decision, caps don’t like being heated and this one will fail rather quickly if diode next to it gets up to 90 degrees (yikes! that’s almost fire hazard, hope the plastic case is not flammable, and in summer add 10-20 degrees more… that’s pretty bad)
