Recommendation for radio allocation when setting up multiple SSIDs

Hey,

I have MT Audience that has three radios (2/5/5GHz), running WiFiWave2.

My plan is to have 3 wifi networks for trusted/guest/jailed clients (trusted is me, guest is obviously guests, and jail is for various chinese iot devices).

Each is on its own VLAN.

All this works fine so far, and my allocation of radios is:

trusted: wifi1 and wifi3 (2/5)
guest: wifi1 and wifi2 (2/5)
jail: wifi1 (2)

Again, all’s working fine so far, but my question really is, should I bother with radio separation, or just bundle all together and use all three radios in each network.

Thanks.

Both 5GHz radios operate individually and devices connected to one of them won’t make use of the other one. So placing same SSID to both is not doing any good. Since different 5GHz radios are elementary different (one has 4 chains), I’d put “trusted” to the better 5GHz radio and the rest of wifi networks to the other one. If the 5GHz coverage is fine where ever you need it, then you may want to omit trusted from 2.4GHz wifi (guests as well). Quite a few devices don’t roam to 5GHz if connected to 2.4GHz and the signal is fine.
