I recently realized that my RB750GL is a limiting factor in my connection. I found this out after my ISP replaced the modem and got my connection up to full speed - and then I changed some items on my side, which included using hardwired Gigabit connections instead of wireless.
I had a number of rules intended for traffic shaping that appeared to be overloading the router (100% cpu usage during big downloads / speedtests). Disabling all my packet marking rules and queues brought the CPU usage down and my throughput up. I thought I’d leave it there for now - but but I’m still seeing some heavy CPU usage for some connections.
I can certainly explore changing my config if that’s all it takes (though with all my Mangle and Queues removed all that’s left is my basic firewall rules and I’m not killing those) - but it just “feels” like the RB750GL is a little underpowered for my current use. If that’s the case - what should I step up to?
