I currently have a Microtik RB951-2n in my library. What would be the best piece of Mikrotik equipment to buy that would enable me to wirelessly access the RB951-2n’s wifi signal and then plug a usb printer into so that it becomes a networked printer? The repeater, bridge, or whatever you wish to call it will be in a closet in the library.
Ros does not provide print server functionality. You need to buy a network print server or a network enabled printer. If you already have that and you need a bridging WiFi client, whatever mikrotik device with WiFi can provide you the bridging function. But remember that wires are always better than WiFi.
Thanks jarda for the reply but I believe the print server is built into this printer. Does that make a difference? I just want to make sure the usb port will accept a printer.
That’s the problem. If the printer has USB only it doesn’t have print server. There are printers with ethernet or WiFi interfaces built in so use one of these. Or you need separate print server. Connecting pure USB printer to whatever mikrotik device will not create any network printer.
