Thought I should check here before going out and buying some random 10G SFP+ trancievers since I need a few of them.
So I got myself a CRS309-1G-8S+IN, it will connect 3 nodes to the rest of my nw, where each node have a dual sfp+ 10G port nic each. The nodes them selves have clustered storrage in the form of Ceph, and that is partly why I use 10G for them.
What transievers are people using? Any particular brand that is better suited or any that I should most definately avoid? I need like 14 of them in total so it's a bonus if they dont cost an arm and a leg as well.
Yea, I know they are not brand locked, but there are still some modules that work better than others.
I have heard that there are modules that dont report temperatures and stats correctly for example, and there might be other things I dont know about some brands.
So that is why I am asking before I just by any random module out there.
in my opinion, reputation of the seller is more important. SFP modules are manufactured by a handful of factories around the world - they are all fine. If you receive a module that does not work, or does not report its temperature, its the fault of the seller that he is selling faulty SFP modules.
I would even avoid HP/Dell/whatever dark pattern company if I have a choice, just because I know that by buying a generic module with clear specifications just means less bullshit involved
As an example, I recently got https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006665564229.html bidi SFP+ module which was 18€ for the pair. fs.com equivalent is 56€, almost 3 times the price. Chinese one says ATS on it, never heard such brand in my life. The only difference between them is price and branding
