I’ve done some hardware recycling at the office, and have stumbled upon old PC that was once WiFi router, with RouterOS on it. It has blue Disk-On-Module with MikroTik sticker on it instead of harddrive, the version is 2.7.14 and at present, nobody can login there, as password is long time forgotten.
What I wanted to ask, is it possible to upgrade that software to something more recent (2.9 something?) without needing to purchase new license? on the other side of that blue module is sticker with some letters that are probably license key or so.
I’m pretty new to RouterOS, but I do own RB411 at home and I like it very very much, and if this old PC could be used again as router, it would mean a lot to me.
I just installed it into another PC, and tried to boot it with QEMU. Now it asks for software key, and when I type it in (the one that is written on it), it says : Invalid Key!
Also, what seems suspicious to me is that Software ID which is written on it is different from what I see on the screen.
Should I post these Software IDs here?
I’d just like to know if this can be used at all.
The SoftID changed because probably you moved it to another PC that has a newer generation motherboard or something like that. A new SoftID requires a new License key. Mikrotik Support could give you one.
