Redundant Links....

Today I had an interesting problem, We have a remote mountaintop repeater, in the best of weather 1.5 hours of 4x4 trail, but there is still snow this time of year. Yesterday the link dropped, no radio connection at all. Fortunately we have a backup link with separate RB and antenna at a convenient location on another tower. I leave the backup link unbridged, so all I had to do was log into the backup RB switch the port to the main bridge to get connectivity. Unfortunately I still couldn’t log into the RB, it gave me an error mesg about having the wrong password. I figured the RB is totally confused, so even though i have it configured with ping watchdog, and the RB was rebooting repeatedly, there was still an issue. (any idea why a RB would behave like this? rb492)
Fortunately I have a RMS v1 from remotemonitoringsystems.ca and so I was able to log into that and give my equipment a hard reboot by clicking the relays off/on.
Just thankful that a little bit of redundancy saved me from a complete day of work just for a power cycle.
