Regulatory domain - antenna gain with integrated devices

Hi,

in case I would like to comply with my local legal regulations, what antenna gain should be set when frequency mode regulatory domain is activated and country set?

I mean, should I leave it “0” and the device will not transmit more that is allowed
-or-
should I set the the antenna gain provided by the technical specs of the device?

This is of course linked only to all-in-one devices that integrated radio with antenna in one piece, e.g. OmniTik or SXT.

I normally leave it “0”, but I just want to be sure, because I did not managed to find any autoritative statement from Mikrotik what should be set in this case…

Thank you in advance.

Normally you should set the actual antenna gain. If you have an SXT, set 16.

Thank you.
Counting with OmniTik - 7,5db antenna.

Regulatory domain Czech Republic (here we can transmit with 27db without automatic rebulation or 30db with automatic regulation).

Looking into Actual TX power - Actually it shows 12db as Tx power and as Real Tx for all rates and 15db total tx power. Antenna gain is set to 5db at the moment. If I take 15db + 5db (set as attenuation), it gives 20db. It means, Omnitik calculates already with integrated antenna, because otherwise it should be transmitting with real tx power 22db (27db as regulatory maximum minus 5db as manually set antenna gain). But it is deducting additional 7db which corresponds to integrated antenna gain.

Have I missed something? Should I leave the antenna gain “0”?

What is strange, when I set antenna gain to 0db instead 5db, it rises the tx power only by 2db (to 14db / 17db total tx power).

So what is “total tx power”? And how is possible that 17db (with zero antenna gain) minus 5db (antenna gain) equals to 15 db tx power?

Oh- Correction a bit: seems it is allowed to transmit 20db without automatic regulation on frequency 5300MHz. Maybe this would be the reason… Lets say ok…

But:

I change the frequency to 5815Mhz where I can transmit 27db. Set “0” antenna gain and check the current tx power tab:
11db/14db for all rates. And adequatelly poor connection as result. But I expected 27db to be there…

What is wrong? How to understand this?

Yes, the issue was that you selected 5300MHz. RouterOS doesn’t know what antenna Omnitik has, so it does not apply any defaults.

it should be transmitting with real tx power 22db (27db as regulatory maximum minus 5db as manually set antenna gain).

yes

But it is deducting additional 7db which corresponds to integrated antenna gain.

no, this is not true, like I said above

In Czech Republic 5815MHz is also limited (5745-5865 to be exact).

You should use 5500-5700 and set antenna gain to 7 (rounded) to get maximum possible.
