Hi,
I’m pretty new to RouterOS - i got a setup router to work with and i’m still learning.
I have a RouterOS 6.33.3 on x86, and an old fileserver with many users - i’m afraid that the server will fail and i want to relocate the files to another.
Is there a way a could move the files and reroute the IP so that when some one types //Spider/ml150 it goes to the new file server //files/Spider/ml150
I find it cleaner to manipulate DNS, and that will depend on how that Spider host name is resolved.
I understand yourt intention is to migrate the data over a new Spider server, and let this new server be the server from that point onwards.
Once the new Spider server is in place, and all data has been synced to it, (I assume clients connect to the server via Server name or FQDN, i.e. via DNS/WINS), you need to manipulate DNS so that Spider resolves to the new server IP.
Never used the redirection way, CIFS protocol is already cumbersome, wouldn’t be surprised at all if you face issues while tinkering (redirections) with it. IMHO not even worth trying.
Clients may even complain while using the DNS way, unless you ensure the new server SID is the same as the old one.
