Reset button on a HEX only reset the password.
Information from the wiki:
Old wiki:https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Reset
New wiki:https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Reset+Button
This if a copy from the wiki:
- Headline say: RouterOS password can only be reset by reinstalling the router OS or using the reset button
- In the text: Hold this button until LED light starts flashing, release the button to reset RouterOS configuration to default.
This is NOT what happened on my HEX, it only reset the Password! Tested it on ROS6.49.6 & ROS7.13.3
Tested on 2 different HEX with same result.
How do i know. I have a working HEX with some stuff on it, fw rules, vlan, and more. I have removed the default admin user and made 2 new ones.
After a reset with the reset button, fw rules, vlan, and all my other stuff is still there. My 2 user accounts are removed, and replaced with the default admin account.
Actually i don’t care because i put it in netinstall mode and wipe it from there, or just use the factory-reset from winbox…
I just don’t understand the reset button only remove the user accounts?
Update 140224:
Solution is here, netinstall and reset button:
Because I use netinstall and at the same time import my rsc file, it now becomes the default when the reset button is used!
Unbelievable I have spent several days of testing to find out why my HEX could not be reset.
So be careful using rsc files together with netinstall.
Better to have a clean box after a hardware reset, and then use winbox to import the new rsc file via: System->Reset…
